The Mechanical Maintenance Shift Leader is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the team on their assigned shift.

 

Standard hours for this role are 7:00 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday with flexibility for overtime as needed.

 

We make NatureFlex and Cellophane packaging films.  These are biodegradable and compostable products to help reduce plastic pollution around the world!  Since they are made from renewable wood pulp as a raw material, we essentially make transparent paper.  Check out the process here.

 

Compostable packaging is a rapidly expanding market.  As a result, Futamura is in the process of a major expansion and we are still growing.    We are looking for good people with a drive for advancement to come join our team.

Futamura is investing millions in the renovation of our Tecumseh facility to increase production. We are in need of qualified individuals to help support our growth.
The Futamura Group; established in Japan in 1950 & now a global operation of 6 manufacturing divisions serving customers around the world. Our facility in Tecumseh, KS is only a short drive from Topeka and Lawrence.
 
Futamura’s objective is to specialize in high added value products. Among these is NatureFlexTM , a biodegradable, compostable film produced in the Tecumseh, KS Cellophane plant. NatureFlexTM is based strongly on renewable resources and are fully certified to the European (EN13432) and American (ASTM D6400) norms for compostable packaging. Our products are shipped around the world and are utilized by major brands as well as specialized markets.

Responsibilities

Duties Include:

  • Provide leadership in the areas of production, quality, safety and communication.
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring when training the team through step progression and as new information is available.
  • Assigning work orders daily to appropriate mechanics that have been acknowledged as ready to work.
  • Perform job walk downs as needed and ensure proper job permits are ready to start the work.
  • Attain and track materials needed to complete the work.
  • Coordinate resources when single work orders require multiple mechanics to complete the work.
  • Read, plan, sketch and redraw blueprints when making modifications to or changing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems and work with purchasing to order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Keep equipment and workplace clean.
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives are observed for all work completed
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:

  • Three to four years of experience in an Industrial Maintenance setting or equivalent
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing valves, pumps, pipefitting, welding, machining, bearings, and shaft alignment.
  • Ability to interpret and understand policies, procedures, prints, schematics and relate them to others
  • Well-versed in machine tool/electrical safety practices, including LOTO.
  • Ability to interact with employees throughout the plant.
  • Demonstrated focus on safety and quality.
  • Proficient knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for managing work orders is a plus.
  • A familiarity with 5S and lean manufacturing principles would be advantageous.
